Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers about scheduling, service area and how we care for your pet.

How do I sign up for dog walking or pet sitting service?

You can call Sharon at Pet Concierge of Tampa Bay at (727) 430-0379 and she’ll be happy to discuss your pet care needs. Sharon will set up a complimentary meeting between you and one of our professional pet sitters or dog walkers to go over your pet’s routine and special needs.

Are you insured and bonded?

Yes. Our Tampa Bay sitters are insured and bonded through Pet Concierge of Tampa Bay.

When should I give a key to my sitter?

Most clients give a key at the initial interview. If you’re not able to at that time, we charge a $15 key pick-up fee. We can keep the key on file if you travel often, or leave it in your home at the end of the sit — whichever you prefer.

Should I call or email, and what’s the best way to reach you?

Calling is always the best way to reach us. We’re happy to respond to emails, but we don’t check email as often as our voicemail. If you need to speak with us right away, please call.

What information do you need if I get your voicemail?

Please leave a detailed message with your travel dates or which days you want dog walking, your town, and any important pet information. A cell number helps us reach you quickly. We return every call, even if we can’t help with your specific request.

How is payment handled?

Different services are billed differently. Daily dog walks are billed monthly, in advance. Vacation visits and overnight sitting are billed after you’ve met your sitter, or at the time of reservation if you’ve met before. We accept check by mail, or MasterCard, Visa, American Express & PayPal by phone.

Where do I mail my payment?

Pet Concierge of Tampa Bay, P.O. Box 3344, Seminole, FL 33775.

What is your cancellation policy on sits?

We have a 7-day cancellation policy for overnight pet sitting and vacation visits. Cancellations made less than 7 days before departure are subject to a 50% cancellation fee; less than 3 days before departure, a 100% fee applies unless we can fill the spot.

Is the information I give my sitter confidential?

Yes. We’re committed to keeping all client and staff information confidential, including your mailing address. We only use your information to take good care of your pets and home while you’re away.

Will I get the same sitter each time I travel?

We prefer the continuity of the same sitter with the same pets and do everything we can to make that happen for future trips. If your regular sitter isn’t available, a substitute will be arranged and introduced to you and your pets beforehand.

Can I hire my sitter directly without calling Pet Concierge of Tampa Bay first?

Please don’t place our staff in the uncomfortable position of offering them work apart from Pet Concierge of Tampa Bay. Our sitters have signed a contract prohibiting them from soliciting or accepting direct employment from clients. Thank you for honoring this policy.

Can you administer medication to my animals while I’m away?

Yes. As long as your animals don’t pose a threat to the sitter, we’re happy to administer medication on your exact schedule.

I’m leaving in two days and don’t have time to meet a sitter — can you still help?

Unless we’ve already met you and your pets, we won’t take care of them without a prior meeting, for both your safety and the sitter’s. We’re sometimes available for last-minute sits if we have space and time for an initial interview.

Do you board dogs in your home?

We don’t board dogs in our home. We provide daily visits (2 or 3 a day) or an overnight sitter who stays in your home with your dog. We’re happy to recommend boarding facilities we know and trust if that’s your preference.

I’ve never used an overnight pet sitter — how does it work?

Sharon matches you with the sitter she feels is best for your pets’ needs — for example, arriving after work and departing in the morning if you work full-time, or a flexible-schedule sitter if your pets need more company. All sitters go through extensive reference and history checks and leave your home neat and tidy when you return.

Can I book a short overnight sit (under 7 nights) a month in advance?

We only accept reservations that far in advance for sits over a 7-night period. For a shorter sit, call us about two weeks before you’re scheduled to depart and we can usually provide a sitter at that point.

Do you provide long-term overnight sitting for extended trips?

Yes. We have sitters who specialize in long-term sitting, available for as long as 3 months, with discounts for extended travel.

What areas do you cover for dog walking and pet sitting?

We cover all of Pinellas and Hillsborough Counties, including the Gulf beaches.

Is there a minimum for weekly dog walking service?

We provide dog walking 7 days a week, with a minimum of 2 set days a week so your dog and walker can keep a regular schedule. We don’t currently offer walks for clients who need just a few days here and there.

How many dogs do your walkers take at one time?

Our walkers take a maximum of 3 dogs at once, matched by neighborhood, temperament and energy level. We also offer individual walks (additional fee) for dogs that can’t be around other dogs.

Do your dog walkers take dogs off-leash?

If your dog responds reliably to voice command and you give permission, we allow off-leash time on designated “dog approved” fire trails, after you sign a release. Off-leash play gives dogs the maximum amount of exercise when they’re responsive to commands.

May I give my sitter or dog walker a gratuity?

Absolutely. You can give gratuities directly to your sitter or mail them to Pet Concierge of Tampa Bay — 100% of gratuities go directly to the sitter.

Do you charge a holiday fee?

We charge a small additional fee over major national holidays, which we’ll let you know at the time you book. This helps reward sitters who give up holiday time to work with us.

What kind of animals do you care for?

Even though we brag about being professional dog walkers & sitters, we also care for animals that make sounds like “meow,” “squeak,” “baa,” “squawk,” “oink” and “neigh” (among others). If your animal makes a different sound, let us know and we’ll see if we can help!

How can I get a job working with animals at Pet Concierge of Tampa Bay?

Visit our Employment page for currently available positions and requirements. Many of our staff started as clients before joining our team — we’d love to hear from you.
